What is Escuela Nueva?

Escuela Nueva means "new school" in Spanish.

Since 1975, Escuela Nueva educational programs have been making schools and schooling a new enterprise. Developed in Colombia in 1975, Escuela Nueva has been adopted by 14 countries, and its successes have inspired educational reforms in more than 35 countries.

The Escuela Nueva program is distinguished from traditional education models by

three interrelated elements: innovative curriculum, effective teacher training, and community empowerment. Implemented together, these three ingredients enable teachers and administrators to make lasting improvements to the quality and effectiveness of basic education.

Who is Escuela Nueva International?

Escuela Nueva International (ENI) brings high quality education to developing countries around the world by scaling the Escuela Nueva model and making it more accessible to the children that need it most.

Inspired by the work of the Escuela Nueva Foundation (ENF) in Bogotá, Colombia,

Escuela Nueva International (ENI) was created to help share the Escuela Nueva philosophy and accelerate the impact of this quality and cost-effective education for children around the world. Although they are independent organizations, Escuela Nueva International and the Escuela Nueva Foundation maintain an enduring relationship. ENI replicates the success of ENF internationally by supporting educational partners and programs that embody the Escuela Nueva vision and values. Vicky Colbert is a founding and current member of Escuela Nueva International's Board of Directors.

What Do We Value?

We envision a world where students, teachers and communities are partners for change.

We believe that all children can be contributing members of their communities. ENI strives to provide quality education that promotes citizenship skills and democratic behaviors to make this vision a reality.

We believe in the merits of civic participation and imaginative problem solving skills. Escuela Nueva helps empower children to transform their lives and become leaders of their communities.

We believe that measurable results and world-class research improve education. We bring leaders in the field of educational research to our schools to help us continually improve our products, teaching guidelines, and gather knowledge of adaptable curriculum.

We believe that each student is unique and deserves attention. Our curricula focuses on self-promotion, allowing children to take learning into their own hands and adapt to their needs.

It takes a whole village to teach a child. Our program has been proven to be successful because teachers, parents, and community members must work together. Our programs are designed to be adaptable, allowing for education to fit the needs of each and every community.

Our goal is to make Escuela Nueva a global leader in child-centered and community-based education. By making our proven methods of learning available

to the schools that need it most, ENI strives to transform communities around the world.

This is the Escuela Nueva Promise.
